English Proficiency Tests: Institutional TOEFL, iBT & IELTS
TCC offers the Institutional TOEFL exam for English proficiency, required for admission to college courses. Registration is in-person at Northeast Campus.
Institutional (ITP) TOEFL Exam
The Institutional (ITP) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is used to evaluate the English proficiency of individuals who speak English as a second language. The primary purpose of the Institutional TOEFL is to measure English proficiency for admission to college-level courses at TCC.
Please note that the Institutional TOEFL scores are valid only at the institution where it is taken. It cannot be sent to another college at a later date.
TOEFL Examinees
Please be aware that the Institutional TOEFL is a standardized exam. This means that each section of the exam - listening, structure, and reading - has time limits set by the testing company, Educational Testing Service (ETS). These time limits will not change. The listening section is on a CD and runs about 35 minutes for 50 questions, the structure section is 40 questions in 25 minutes, and the reading portion is 50 questions in 55 minutes.
Individuals wishing to attend an institution other than TCC, or are unable to take our Institutional TOEFL, may register online for the TOEFL iBT. The cost for the iBT TOEFL is $225 (as of 6/4/2021).
TOEFL Fee
The cost for the Institutional TOEFL is $45 - A fee increase may be implemented by Examination Testing Service (ETS).
TOEFL Registration
The registration process must be done in person at the Northeast Campus Testing Center. Each person registering for this exam must bring a photo ID with a signature (i.e. driver's license, passport, etc.) and the appropriate registration fee. A copy of the photo ID will be kept on file in the Testing Center.
Please note, TOEFL registration is handled on a first come first serve basis. If there are no slots available for your preferred date, you may be put on a waitlist or sign up for another date.
