Degree Requirements

TCC's RN Nursing Program offers two tracks: the Traditional Track for incoming students without a nursing background and the Career Mobility Track for certified medical professionals.

Applying to this program is a separate process. It's competitive due to limited spots. You need to apply to TCC before applying to the nursing program.

Traditional Track

The Traditional Track is meant for those who are new to nursing. It accepts new students every spring and fall semester. To join, you need to take certain prerequisite courses. Once you finish the required prerequisites, this track is designed to be completed in four semesters.
The Traditional Track spans five semesters, incorporating the prerequisite semester. TCC accepts approximately 80 students each fall and spring semester for the traditional Registered Nurse track.

Admissions Criteria for Traditional Track

• Completion of all prerequisite semester courses (or approved substitutes) with a minimum grade of "C " or better.
• Overall college GPA minimum 2.5.
• Completion of ACCUPLACER test. Contact your assigned academic advisor for a referral.

*If you previously attended an RN Nursing Program, your application must be submitted at least 1 month prior to the application deadline and will be reviewed on an individual basis. Official transcripts from the previous RN school and a letter in which you address any grade of W, D, or F received for any Nursing courses must be submitted with your online application.

Career Mobility Track

The Career Mobility Track is designed for current medical professionals with certifications as Licensed Practical Nurses or Registered Paramedics. After completing the prerequisite courses, you can finish this track in three semesters. Classes for the Career Mobility Track are available on Fridays/Saturdays in spring, Wednesdays/Thursdays in fall, and Fridays/Saturdays in summer.

The Career Mobility Track spans five semesters, including the prerequisite semesters.

Admissions Criteria for Career Mobility Track

• Complete all prerequisite semester courses (or approved substitutes) with a minimum grade of "C " or better.
• Completion of ACCUPLACER test. Contact your assigned academic advisor for a referral.
• Overall college GPA minimum 2.5.
• Hold a current, unrestricted license as an LPN in Oklahoma or have National Paramedic Registration.
• A paramedic student who is accepted to the Program is required to successfully pass NURS 1471, Activities of Daily Living before beginning the program.

*If you previously attended an RN Nursing Program, your application must be submitted at least 1 month prior to the application deadline and will be reviewed on an individual basis. Official transcripts from the previous RN school and a letter in which you address any grade of W, D, or F received for any Nursing courses must be submitted with your online application.

The schedule for the cohorts is as follows:

• Fall cohort meets on Wednesdays/Thursdays.
• Spring cohort meets on Fridays/Saturdays.

The applicant pools for programs in the School of Health Sciences are very competitive. Application does not mean acceptance into the Nursing Program. Applicants must meet with a Health Sciences advisor before they apply to a program and may be required to attend an orientation for the Nursing program. All application correspondence from the Nursing Program will be through your TCC email.

We've got a clear path to get you started in the Nursing program:

1. Apply to TCC: First, apply for admission to TCC. Please note that if you haven't been enrolled at TCC in the past year, you'll need to complete this application.
2. Submit your high school and any college transcripts; 2.5 overall GPA required.
3. Review the information sheet for the Traditional Track  and/or the Career Mobility (LPN/Paramedic to RN) Track.
4. Contact a School of Health Sciences Academic Advisor.
5. Complete TCC Accuplacer, with referral from your Academic Advisor.
6. Attend the Nursing Smart Start Orientation.
7. Review the Traditional Track Estimated Cost and/or the Career Mobility Track Estimate Cost.
8. Meet with a Health Sciences Advisor to complete the Traditional Track Application Checklist and/or the Career Mobility Application Checklist.
9. Review the Ranking Criteria for Admissions
10. Apply for Admission to the Nursing Program.
11. Submit current, unrestricted license as an LPN in Oklahoma or have National Paramedic Registration (Career Mobility Track Only)

Admissions applications will be accepted Jan. 1 – April 1 for Fall and May 1 – Sept 1 for Spring and Jan 1 – Mar 1 for Summer (CM Only).

All applicants will be notified in writing of their admissions status within four weeks of the application deadline. Admission into the program is limited based on various factors including clinical availability and faculty workload, among other factors. Alternates will be placed on a list and notified but email if space in the program becomes available.

Needs Upon Acceptance into the Nursing Program

• Drug Screening and Criminal Background Check, including but not limited to a 7-year county of residence and nationwide criminal history check, national sexual predator screening, Social Security check, and Medicare/Medicaid fraud screening.
• Current CPR card - Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Completed Health Record with required documentation of annual TB and Flu shot, and evidence of immunity to Varicella or chickenpox, Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and COVID-19 vaccine.

TCC's curriculum is tailored to fulfill pre-education requirements for licensure/certification in Oklahoma. While designed for state licensure exams, students considering other states should review relevant professional licensure disclosures and consult with the respective licensing board. State boards determine eligibility for licensure based on current rules when applying.

The Program is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) and approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Completion of our associate degree qualifies graduates to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) through the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
